Abstract

The Maine Legislature's Appropriations Committee met in a small room behind the back wall of a committee room on March 14 to discuss the state budget. Maine's open meeting law requires legislative committees to conduct all their business in public, but committee members insisted there was nothing unusual about the meeting. Committee House Chairman George Kerr said the meeting took place in the room behind a closed door because of noise in the hallway.
