Abstract

Details on Gov. King's first comprehensive initiative as governor, unveiled last week at the Falmouth headquarters of the Maine Audubon Society. King announced he would call a special session of the Maine Legislature to consider an alternative to the November referendum to ban clear-cutting in Maine's unorganized territories. The initiative also includes a plan to curtail or eliminate dioxin in waterways, bring Maine into full compliance with the federal Clean Air Act and address complex issues such as highway-based development.
