Abstract

The recent rabies scare at Bowdoinham Elementary School has resulted in state officials warning people not to pick up or touch any wild or strange domestic animal. Kathleen Gensheimer, state epidemiologist, said she was startled when she heard that people in Bowdoinham were handling a fox. Paul Reynolds of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said picking up wild animals is not only ill-advised but illegal.
