Abstract

state representative Elizabeth Mitchell, D-Vassalboro, was initially skeptical about the appointment of Wayne Mowatt as commissioner of the Maine Department of Education. Mitchell and Mowatt attended a major education conference in Los Angeles May 11-12, and Mitchell said she saw a different side of Mowatt. Mowatt resigned his position of May 14, and Mitchell said Mowatt's actions don't add up. Mowatt, 62, said people are making too big of a deal of his decision to resign, and said he just wants to retire.
