Abstract

Dave and Chris Colson of New Leaf Farm of Durham sell around 40 percent of their produce to restaurants, and the rest to stores. Organic farmer Frank Gross of Lisbon sells all his produce to a single restaurant, the Harraseeket Inn of Freeport. Ron Poitras, a planner for Hancock County, is spearheading an effort to link up local farmers with local restaurants. Poitras believes that the $40 million spent annually in local restaurants could support a lot more agriculture in the area. Details.
