Abstract

"Maine Perspectives" piece on the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, which featured one of the costliest and nastiest race in Maine history. Robert A.G. Monks spent more than $1.7 million of his own money, while W. John Hathaway spent $600,000 of his. The final two weeks of the campaign featured allegations that Hathaway had sex with a 13-year-old female in Alabama six years ago, and that the Monks campaign was responsible for publicizing the allegations.
