Abstract

Gov. King this month announced an initiative to seek out wasteful spending in government. The state has hired Stevens, Morton, Rose and Thompson of Portland to review the use of every square inch of office space in state government, including both state-owned and rented space. The Boulos Company earlier this year was awarded a contract to review the state's ten largest office leases, and found nothing wrong with the rates the state was paying or the terms of the agreements. Some law enforcement and social service workers are criticizing the King administration for the effects of paring the state budget in the area of mental health.
