Abstract

Portland will host the Ninth International Pro Bike/Pro Walk Conference September 3-7. Nearly 400 of the world's leading experts on bicycle and pedestrian programs will assemble to share the latest research on bicycling and pedestrian issues. Although Maine is generally seen as bike-friendly, many observers believe the state has a long way to go before its roads will be safe and accessible for the average cyclist. Details; profile of Charles Pratt, a native of Vassalboro, who in 1880 became the founding president of the League of American Wheelmen; information on the Bicycle Coalition of Maine.
