Abstract

Bates, Bowdoin and Colby colleges are part of a national trend in which colleges and universities are seeing increasing numbers of students seeking higher education. Colby College has increased its applicant pool by 60 percent over three years, and Bowdoin College last year fielded 4,400 applications, up from 3,000 four years ago. Bates College has 1,490 on-campus beds and 1,698 students, up from 1,537 students four years ago.
