Abstract

The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission last week voted 5-1 against rezoning 3,650 acres in the north woods. The Gardner Land Company, a family-owned timber business, had requested the rezoning. The Gardner plan would have located 43 lots on Snake, Carpenter, May and Hay ponds, in exchange for permanent conservation easements on nearly nine miles of shoreline. Malachi Anderson cast the lone dissenting vote, and said he had problems with putting restrictions on someone's land.
