Abstract

"Election '96" piece on the recount in Maine House District 4, which upheld the declared winner but turned up an additional 222 ballots. Nobody at the state elections bureau or the town clerk's office in North Berwick could explain how five percent of the all ballots cast went uncounted. With a piece on James G. Blaine, 51, of Pennsylvania, who lost his bid for Congress. Blaine is the great-great-grandson of James G. Blaine of Maine.
