Abstract

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Maine a $20,000 grant to encourage property owners to turn in pesticides they might have in their homes. The Maine Pesticides Control Board will arrange to collect any pesticides that have been banned for domestic use, and the pesticides will be disposed of by Clean Harbors of South Portland. The program also helps dispose of pesticides in current use that have expired due to age or been spoiled. The city of Bangor contacted the board when it identified 600 pounds of 30-year-old Malathion in a warehouse.
