Abstract

Vermont and Nebraska have stayed ahead of corporate farming interests by passing laws and policies that are friendly toward family farms. Maine's hog farm moratorium that passed last spring is a step in the right direction toward preserving family farm. University of Southern Maine professor Mark Lapping says that New Hampshire has lost the battle between small farms and corporate farming, and Maine could go in either direction.
