Abstract

A look at troubled School Administrative District 40 and Superintendent Robert Spugnardi, who has managed to fill 16 vacant positions and 5 newly created ones, even though although teachers are working their second year without a contract. A review of applications for the positions that were filled suggests slim pickings, and parents vented their anger at the employment situation at a school board meeting last week. In response, Spugnardi has asked the state Department of Education to inspect the schools in the system, including Medomak Valley High School, where a new principal and vice principal have just been hired.
