Abstract

Both Ram Island Dance and the Portland String Quartet celebrate their 30th anniversary this year with special events, including two collaborative performances in August. With a history of Ram Island and a look at how funding for both groups is a continuing dilemma. The question is raised of striking the right balance between private and public funding in the arts, and how to better engage a media-dominated public in the art-making process.
