Abstract

A 300-foot-tall mobile telephone tower erected on Swan's Island in Penobscot Bay by United States Cellular is coming under fire by residents who claim it destroys the aesthetic beauty of the island. Many of the island's fishermen use cellular technology on their boats and use the tower as a navigational aid, creating a rift among island residents over the desirability of having the tower remain in place.
