Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the departure of director Chuck Gadzik from the Maine Forest Service. Gadzik, who will resign effective March 5, is joining J. D. Irving as forest manager responsible for Irving's 1.6 million acres of timberlands in northern Maine. Jonathan Carter, director of the Forest Ecology Network, called Gadzik "a front for the industry" and "an obstructionist" to forest practices reform. Gadzik's philosophy is that "a responsible and progressive forest industry can be part of Maine's future."
