Abstract

"Second Story" piece on the Maine Audubon Society and the National Audubon Society, which are hoping to merge into a single, "seamless" Audubon organization. But some grassroots environmentalists see the move as a top-down takeover, while proponents say it will eliminate a lot of confusion. The New York-based national organization has 5,000 Maine members and six chapters in Maine, while the Maine organization has aabout 6,000 members and three chapters.
