Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a public hearing being held today before the Legislature's Education Committee focusing on a Maine law requiring teachers and other school employees to be fingerprinted for criminal background checks. The committee will hear testimony concerning an omnibus bill that poses four options: repeal of the fingerprint law; state funding for the $49 fee; requiring only new teachers to comply; and expansion to include day care workers.
