Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on three separate Maine events in April and May focused on global warming. The events were held by the Chewonki Center, the Coalition for Sensible Energy, and the State Planning Office (SPO). According to the SPO, Maine emitted 22.1 million tons of carbon dioxide in 1990, with 19.2 million tons coming from fossil fuel combustion. The SPO predicts by the year 2005 that number will increase to between 25 and 30 million tons, with nearly half coming from motor vehicle emissions.
