Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the sale of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine to Anthem Insurance Cos. of Indiana. Maine Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CAHC) has filed an appeal, alleging that Insurance Superintendent Al Iuppa failed to follow the valuation guidelines set forth in state statute. CAHC attorney Joe Ditre said the appeal is based on the issue of valuation and the belief that Iuppa proceeded inappropriately in negotiating the sale price based on the accepted valuation. Ditre said CAHC hopes the appeal will force Anthem to pay another $20 million into a charitable trust created with the proceeds which now stands at $81.6 million.
