Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on an appeal filed last week by the Maine Public Advocate's office in response to the Public Utilities Commission's decision not to pursue a rate investigation of Bell Atlantic-Maine. According to Public Advocate Steve Ward, the utility's expenses have grown by 8 percent, while their revenues have grown by almost 20 percent in the last five years, and Ward thinks customers are entitled to some of those savings. Bell Atlantic has 85 percent of the residential market share in Maine, with small, rural providers making up the rest.
