Abstract

In Maine, chickadees attract other birds, species which might include nuthatches, woodpeckers and kinglets, into loose aggregations which travel together through the winter. The flocks do not seem to be accidental, and some ornithological studies indicate that they form due to the chickadee's well-developed predator-alarm system. Details.
