Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a controversial dredging project that is underway in Wells Harbor. The redefined harbor will accommodate 150 moorings, up two-thirds from the current 90. Much of a 1,500-acre wetland lies within the protected boundaries of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been a major player in the effort to protect it. Maine Audubon Society also opposed the project.
