Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on Tim Caverly, former manger of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, who was fired in June, 1999, after 33 years on the job, amid a political uproar over the Allagash. Caverly, who sued the state for reinstatement, now feels vindicated after reaching a settlement with the state that includes a letter of praise from the man who fired him. Rumors that a financial award was part of the settlement could not be confirmed, but at least one source said he was paid. Caverly is now the director of the new Maine office of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.
