Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on oral arguments before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court relating to a suit brought by three paper companies against Maine's Native American tribes. At issue is whether the tribes should be compelled to turn over documents concerning water quality under Maine's Freedom of Access Act. If the court upholds an earlier superior court decision and finds against the tribes, several tribal governors could be jailed for contempt if they again refuse to hand over the documents.
