Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a legislative bill sponsored by state represenative Brian Duprey, R-Hampden, that would employ the oversight of library staff in any school, state, institutional, or public library to deny access to Internet sites considered harmful to those under the age of 18. Duprey's bill faces widespread opposition from librarians, as does the proposed Children's Internet Protection Act, a similar federal bill. The Maine Library Association is already party to the American Civil Liberties Union suit against the federal bill, sponsored by U.S. senator John McCain, R-Arizona. With comments by Maine librarians.
