Abstract

"News" piece on an infestation of termites at the Joshua Chamberlain house in Brunswick. The termites were discovered during a routine inspection in 1999. Debbie Smith, director of the Pejepscot Historical Society, said the believes the problem is now under control. Richard Dearborn, an entomologist with the Maine Forest Service, said he has been getting one or two termite complaints a year, compared to the one or two complaints a decade that was once normal. Infestations have been reported in York and Cumberland counties, and also in Bethel and Augusta.
