Abstract

"News" piece on Belfast city councilors who recently agreed to apply for a grant that will give developer Joe Cloutier $400,000 toward a low-income, 42-unit housing project he has proposed. According to Mayor Mike Hurley, the town had to support Cloutier's apartments because many can't afford the typical $600 to $900 monthly rent in Belfast, which has become the third least affordable place to live in Maine. A few months ago, the city also rezoned an area close to the Hyland Mobile Park to allow owner Dana Keene to increase the number of allowed units from 150 to 180.
