Dean Marriott announced in February that he would be resigning as commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection for a position in Portland, Oregon. Although the DEP has been faulted by both environmentalists and industry for being disorganized and reactive, the agency has emerged as one with a clear management structure and pro-active vision, and even environmentalists are not as stridently negative about the agency as they once were.
