Abstract

A 4,465-acre parcel surrounding the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone next month will become the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge. Maine's four current National Wildlife Refuges protect 43,445 acres. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will manage the Aroostook NWR, with wildlife habitat the top priority. Details on the federal national wildlife refuge program in general and Maine's refuges in particular.
