Abstract

Maine Assistant Attorney General Paul Stern has advised the Baxter State Park Authority that former governor Percival Baxter's wishes are paramount when considering the future use of a new addition to Baxter State Park. The park authority next week will decide whether a 2,667-acre addition will be managed as a wildlife sanctuary that would exclude motor vehicle use, hunting and trapping. Stern's advice was based on written statements by Baxter going back to the 1940s.
