Abstract

William Jordan, a retired Westbrook College history professor, lives in a house in Portland made from a Cape Elizabeth farmhouse, the birthplace of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and a South Portland general store. Earle Shettleworth of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission says the recycling of building materials is nothing new, and is responsible for the doors, windows and sides of many Maine houses.
