Abstract

This winter, the town of Steuben was in the national news because of a problem with rats. The increase in the rodent population was supposedly due to the improper closure of a privately operated landfill, but town officials in Steuben question whether there is a rodent problem. Ed Butler of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal Damage Control Unit in Augusta says that although there have been some localized problems, this is by no means the year of the rat. Details.
