Abstract

A bill to be considered by the Legislature would prohibit physicians from referring patients to facilities in which the physicians have a financial interest, and could force the restructuring of several diagnostic imaging centers in Maine. Critics of the measure contend that in some regions of the state there are few referral options other than to physician-owned laboratories and clinics.
