Abstract

The August 7 Maine National Guard parade and farewell ceremony for outgoing commander Maj. Gen. Donald Marden is being categorized by some guardsmen as a waste of federal money. Each of the 2,700 Maine National Guard troopers who participated in the event were treated to a box lunch prepared by a local caterer, and 27 Maine Line buses were chartered to transport guardsmen from throughout the state to Augusta, even though the guard has Meals Ready to Eat for food and enough vehicles to transport their men wherever they need to go.
