Unum Corp. is paying dearly for individual disability policies that were non-cancellable and had fixed premiums. The Portland-based insurer has been hit with so many claims from doctors who bought the policies that it lost $61.7 million in the third quarter of 1994, prompting it to cut 350 jobs. Details.
