Abstract

Many Aroostook County potato farmers doubled and even tripled the amount of chemicals they were spraying to combat potato blight, but Maine officials seem unconcerned about the potential health or environmental effects. The increased use fell within federal guidelines, and officials say the severity of the blight left farmers with no choice if they wanted to grow potatoes.
