Full exterior view of Talbot, Brooks, and Ayer building, 269-273 Commercial Street, from east. Cross Street at right. Painted sign on northeast wall reads, "Talbot, Brooks, & Ayer. Wholesale Hardware, Atlas Paint, Murphy Varnishes." "Wholesale Hardware. Paints, Oils, Varnishes, Mill Supplies. City Sales Dept. 269 Middle St."
The building was shared by Talbot, Brooks, and Ayer (269 Commercial Street), and E. Swasey and Company (273 Commercial Street), from 1917-1931.
