Abstract

"North by East" piece on the sale of the Rockland-based schooner, "Stephen Taber," built in 1871, the oldest documented sailing vessel in continuous service in the U.S., to Noah Barnes, 31, son of longtime captains and owners Ken and Ellen Barnes. Garth Wells, 30, purchased Camden's "Lewis R. French," also built in 1871, from Dan and Kathy Pease; and Owen Dorr bought another schooner, "Nathaniel Bowditch," from Gib Philbrick.
