Abstract

"Business Maine: Central & Western" piece reporting that the price of plywood has doubled from $14 to $15 per sheet last spring to near $30 in early September. The steep price increase is attributed to the fact that a plywood glut in recent years had led to a cutback in production, which was then offset the demands of booming construction industry and the reconstruction of Iraq, which has led the U.S. Army to buy plywood by the boxcar. Lumber industry observes believe prices will come down once supplies again increase.
