Abstract

Business Maine: Central & Western" piece reporting that the state is making plans to woo younger workers to government jobs. More than half of the state's workforce is 46 or older, according to the Bureau of Human Resources. Over the next five years, 4,000 of the state's 13,500 employees will become eligible to retire, and there aren't enough younger workers in government positions to fill the coming vacancies. The state's recruitment effort will emphasize the chance for good pay and benefits, and opportunities for promotion within state offices. It will also encourage prospective employees to take training courses offered by the Bureau of Human Resources, and encourage retirement age workers to stay on in their jobs.
