Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that Governor John Baldacci threatened to use his veto power if legislators put a tax reform plan into the budget. Baldacci said that any tax, other than the cigarette tax hike he proposed, is off the table until the budget is resolved. Sen. Joe Perry (D-Bangor), co-chair of the taxation committee, said his committee can't wait until after the budget is resolved to push a tax reform package that will significantly change the state's tax structure.
