Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that factory workers and owners filled the State House on March 21 to let lawmakers know manufacturing is important to the state, noting that it is the third largest sector of the Maine economy. Dana Evans, an economist with the Maine Department of Labor, said the manufacturing sector continues to decline, but not as fast as in previous years. Evans said machinery and metal working will show a net increase when numbers are finalized from 2006, but that growth will not offset the continuing decline in the paper sector. With comments by Keith Van Scotter, president of Lincoln Tissue and Paper.
