Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Nancy Smith, former state legislator and new director of Portland-based GrowSmart Maine. She lives in Monmouth, runs an organic farm, and has worked in the paper industry and for a forestry consultant. Last year, GrowSmart's staff was cut in half and the organization parted ways with founder Alan Caron. Smith believes in coalition-building and wants to bring people who work the land into the conversation about Maine downtowns and sustainable growth.
