Abstract

"Focus Midcoast Region" piece on collaboration between the city of Rockland and the towns of Camden, Rockport, and Thomaston to coordinate and communicate about future development along Route 1. After funding was cut in 2011 for the Gateway 1 program, which had focused on Route 1 and involved the Maine Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway, and 20 coastal communities, several of the communities continued meeting to discuss how to balance development and rural character needs and hope to begin involving the public in their discussions.
