"Cover Story" piece on political surveys and polls commissioned by Maine newspapers that allegedly are designed to favor the Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Baldacci, whose challengers feel the newspapers are using poor methodology and small samples, and are unfairly damaging them early in the campaign by dramatically understating their real position and potential. The other three candidates are Republican Peter Cianchette, Green Independent Party candidate Jonathan Carter, and independent John Michael.
