Abstract

The movie "Gettysburg" has given former Maine Governor Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain national attention, prompting the Pejepscot Historical Society to keep the Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain Museum in Brunswick open until Thanksgiving. The museum usually closes in September, but interest in Chamberlain and the 20th Maine Regiment, instrumental in holding the Union lines during the battle of Gettysburg, has encouraged museum officials to extend the season.
