The Portland Newspapers have received the Horace Greeley Award for public service for a series of editorials, written Lou Ureneck and George Neavoll in 1991 and 1992, that campaigned for a change in the state's workers' compensation system -- The award is the highest honor for public service given by the New England Press Association
