Abstract

Preliminary figures released yesterday by the state Department of Public Safety show that crime in Maine decreased for the second year in a row, from 43,297 incidents in 1992 to 39,250 in 1993, a 9.3 percent decline. The number of reported rapes increased 16.8 percent, from 298 in 1992 to 348 in 1993, while the number of murders declined 36 percent, from 25 in 1992 to 16 in 1993. Details.
